Jamaica rhythms!


Jamaica is a big island and full of music!s an island country situated in the Caribbean Sea, comprising the third-largest island of theGreater Antilles.he indigenous people, the Taíno, called itXaymaca in Arawakan meaning the "Land of Wood and Water" or the "Land of Springs. Once a Spanish possession known as Santiago, in 1655 it came under the rule of England (later Great Britain), and was called Jamaica.



MENTO


Mento is a style of Jamaican folk music that predates and has greatly influenced ska and reggae music. Mento typically features acoustic instruments, such as acoustic guitar, banjo, hand drums, and the rhumba box — a large mbira in the shape of a box that can be sat on while played. Mento is often confused with calypso, a musical form from Trinidad and Tobago.




CALYPSO


the calypso music of Trinidad and Tobago has become part of the culture of Jamaica. Jamaica's own local music mento is often confused with calypso music.
he Trinidadian calypso, steelpan and soca music are popular in Jamaica. Popular calypso/soca artists from Jamaica include Byron Lee, Fab 5, and Lovindeer.



REGGAE

In the late 1960s reggae emerged as a reinterpretation of American rhythm and blues. Reggae became popular around the world, due in large part to the international success of artists like Bob Marley
